Ken Berg married his accompanist, Susan Rucker Berg, after they both graduated with BMEs from Samford University in 1977. Ken also completed his MME at Samford in 1981. Ken and Susan have served together and individually in several area churches. They live happily with their sons, Michael and David, in Birmingham, Alabama.
Ken considers himself a "functional" composer, generally writing for specific program needs or on commission. After 28 great years of teaching, Ken retired from John Carroll Catholic High School in 2005. He now serves as the full time Music Minister and Resident Composer at Mountain Brook Baptist Church in Birmingham (berg@mbbc.org). Ken and Susan still serve as Music Directors of the Birmingham Boys Choir (www.birminghamboyschoir.com) and he can be reached there via email ken@birminghamboyschoir.com. He has served on the Training Courses Committee with the Royal School of Church Music in America (RSCM) and as the High School Resource & Standards Chair for the Alabama chapter of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). He is also an active member of the Music Educator's National Conference (MENC) and the Organization of American Kodaly Educators (OAKE). His choirs have sung for State and National Music Conventions and have attended festivals all over North America.
