I've Been in the Storm So Long

Traditional spiritual, arr. Jeffery L. Ames

University of Miami Frost School of Music Recording Choir, Jo-Michael Scheibe, conductor; Charmyn Robinson, solo
Written in response to hurricane Katrina by the composer of 2005's well-received In Remembrance, this melancholy spiritual sounds more difficult than it is. With rich sonorities and unexpected harmonic twists, its repeated choral figures develop naturally and support a terrific female solo, giving a choir a chance to highlight its expressive stylistic sensibility in concert, festival or worship venues.
